Details and then Customer Comments below.
The Old Granary (sleeps 2) is a tastefully converted grain and cider store with its stone steps and railings that provides a cosy little inverted (ground floor ensuite bedroom/first floor lounge/kitchen) and well equipped cottage that is an ideal little hideaway for a romantic few days in the Cotswolds or a few days quiet respite away from the everyday hustle and bustle of city life.
The cosy, yet light and airy open plan first floor sitting room with a kitchen/dining area can be accessed through a new oak door (through which you get a delightful view of the banked and tree lined lane) at the top of the traditional old stone steps or internally via a stairway from the ground floor bedroom.
The fitted limed oak kitchen includes electric oven, induction hob, microwave oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, steamer, coffee maker, toaster, etc. Regrettably there is no room for a washing machine. The oak dining table and chairs allows two to dine in absolute comfort and an extra leaf and spare chairs are available for those wanting to entertain a couple of guests.
The comfortable armchairs are ideal to relax in or you can snuggle up on the sofa for a few hours. Digital colour TV/DVD/CD/Freeview, digital radio and an I-pod docking station provide alternative entertainment when required. Wi-Fi gives your laptop access to the net.
Internally accessible from the first floor lounge or externally via a new oak door, the ensuite double bedroom, because of its two low beams, carries a Government Health Warning for any guest over 5’ 10” in height. Nevertheless, it offers plenty of space in which to quietly relax, whilst at the same time being very cosy and comfortable. An oak dressing table, chest of drawers and an unusual small pine wardrobe all help to create a romantic atmosphere.
The ensuite shower room has a spacious glass lined shower cabinet and also enjoys a body-drier. Clean line, towels and all services are included in the charge and the cottage is thoroughly cleaned between lets. There is off-road parking for two cars.
For those unfortunate allergy sufferers, we request that guests do not smoke within the cottage and with the exception of guide dogs (for which a small additional cleaning charge is made); we do not allow pets in the cottage.
Back in the 1860’s, the main entrance to Campden House came along Blind Lane in front of the farmhouse and turned left around its garden’s curved retaining wall to head up the Orchard Drive to the house.
The farmhouse’s garden has always been on the other side of the lane and its patio provides a nice sheltered haven for the occupants of the Old Granary.
Customer Comments"We stayed in The Old Granary for two weeks in April and found it a cosy and charming property. The house is in fact upside down, with the spacious bedroom and shower room on the ground floor with it’s own door leading to the outdoors. Upstairs is the kitchen/sitting/dining room again, with its own door to the outdoors with steps leading down to the driveway. The view from the top of these steps it lovely. Standing with a morning cup of tea looking out at the rolling Cotswold countryside is hard to beat and that’s while still wearing a dressing gown!
Although the Old Granary, as the name depicts, is very old and steeped in history, the property has all the mod cons and would suit a couple looking for a romantic break very well. We would be more than happy to stay there during winter or summer because it is both warm and cosy as well as bright and sunny.
The owner of the property was more than helpful and offered very useful tips of places to go in the area. Chipping Campden is a wonderful small town with many beautiful attractions including wonderful tea shops which make you feel as if you are stepping back in time.
We would have no hesitation in recommending The Old Granary to anyone who enjoys stunning countryside as well as utter peace and quiet. We certainly felt we had got away from the rate race in every way and felt very sorry to leave."
