Three generations of the Haines family at Top Farm
Cotswold Charm was set up by Michael Haines in 1996 and ran up to six cottages he jointly owned with his brother Stephen and sister Margaret, all under the careful eye of their late mother Elsie.
Since her passing, Michael lets the cottages through Cotswold Charm Holiday Cottages, which acts as an agency. Margaret still has Stable Cottage alongside the old farmhouse, and Michael has the Old Granary and George Barn alongside the farmhouse where he was born and still lives. The change was made to give a more personal service to the many friends who have stayed with us over the years.
To keep a strong Chipping Campden presence, Michael is delighted to have added Meadow Cottage in nearby Charingworth, alongside Pearl Brandreth's Tally Ho and Tally Ho View at the bottom of Dyers Lane, and Mark and Deenie's Over the Arches in Park Road.
The collection
Individual cottages, a few hundred yards apart
Our very individual cottages have one to four en suite bedrooms, and most sit within 20 to 300 yards of one another, which makes it easy to host large family groups. Each has its own distinctive features and character.
Today things are rather different at Top Farm to 300 years ago, when a member of the Haines family farmed and lived in what is now Stable Cottage.
Supportive stays for every guest
Cotswold Charm Holiday Cottages aims to be the best one-stop shop for self-catering accommodation in the Cotswolds, and in Chipping Campden in particular. Within each cottage we aim to be as supportive as the building allows, and wherever possible to meet the needs of guests with a wide range of physical disabilities.
Four of the cottages, Meadow Cottage, Old Granary, Over the Arches and George Barn, have a ground-floor bedroom for those who struggle with stairs. George Barn's ground floor is completely wheelchair accessible, with a large lounge, kitchen and diner and a bedroom with en suite wet room.
Many guests with varying disabilities stayed in our earlier cottages, Rick Cottage, Barn Cottage and The Ewe Pen, and the feedback was always very positive. Michael now aims for George Barn to surpass them.
As an above-knee amputee, Michael can manage the Old Granary's staircase to the lounge and kitchen, though it is a little more of a challenge. Its large ground floor has an en suite wet room.
