Stable Cottage
The Perfect Cottage for up to four
The first picture below shows the cottage from its 2 parking spaces in the old Rick Yard with the access path on the left and steps leading to a small sheltered patio and the front door. It also has a suntrap of a secluded, sheltered and colourful courtyard garden on the south side accessible from the stable-door.
Originally a 14/15th century “farmer’s cottage”, it was converted to stables in the early 1700’s, farm office in the early 1950’s, converted back to living accommodation again in 1999 and then in September 2019 the kithen, lounge, bathrooms, heating and windows were upgraded.
In many ways Stable Cottage is a time warp with the majority of the original stonework and polished oak beams, etc. shown to advantage and yet it has been tastfully modernised to meet the needs of today’s guests.
It offers a truly relaxing and delightful holiday setting/base from which a family or two couples can enjoy the beauty and history of Chipping Campden, the Cotswolds and Stratford upon Avon and Shakespeare country, etc.
Walk in through the oiled hardwood door and you are into a hallway, the first door on the right opens into the spacious and well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen. This has plenty of space and numerous key features for safety conscious gourmets, including four-ring gas hob, efficient extractor hood, electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, food processor & utensils along with the essential dishwasher. Digital radio/CD player & ipod docking station plus high speed WiFi access.
Back in the hallway and you will find a utility room with washer/drier off the hallway and a ground floor toilet beyond.
Past the staircase and the second door on the right opens into a relaxing lounge – comfortable armchairs & settee, 30” television/video/DVD player including Free-View, high speed WiFi, ancillary furniture and log effect fire. Just the place for you to relax with that book or endearing drink in comfortable armchairs and a settee after that brisk early morning walk in the refreshing Cotswold air.
Up the staircase and to your left you will find the master ensuite bedroom which enjoys a king-sized four-poster bed; ample matching bedroom furniture, portable television and plenty room for a quiet sit-down away from the rigours of the day. New toilet, basin and bath + shower occupy the well-equipped bathroom.
Dovers Hill creates a lovely backdrop behind the small dressing room window and is owned by the National Trust – it is at least half-mile in length along the edge of the ridge and provides open views over The Vale of Evesham, Bredon Hill, The Malverns and Black Mountains into Wales.
The second bedroom provides a cosy and comfortable atmosphere with double bed and newly equipped ensuite shoer/wet-room surrounded by the original stonework and hand waxed beams.
The original farmer’s cottage doorway (now fitted with a stable door) leads to a small hallway between the kitchen and the lounge – it also has a storage cupboard under the stairs.
For those unfortunate allergy sufferers, we request that guests do not smoke within the cottage and except for guide and similar caring dogs (for which a small additional cleaning charge is made), do not allow pets in the cottage.
Those that have the energy will find a myriad of footpaths in and around Chipping Campden. Within a few minutes you can be lookin out over The Vale from Dovers Hill towards Malvern, the Black Mountains and even The Wrekin. A bit further on the extra height of Broadway Tower will only add to your experience.
There are delightful views aplenty from the surrounding banks and ridges into Chipping Campden with St James Church a spectacular focal point.
Within a 20 to 30 minute drive there are almost to many attractions to list, but The National Trust gardens at Hidcote Manor, Snowshill and Charlcotte along with the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway, Sudely Castle, Shakespear’s Stratford upon Avon are but a few.
No matter what the weather or season, Cotswold Charm is simply here all year around to help you enjoy the beautiful Cotswold town of Chipping Campden and the local area where you can escape into another world.
