Robert Dover’s Games

One of the favourite things to do in Chipping Campden is Robert Dover’s Games (also known as Dover’s Games to locals), whcih brings to an end a number of festivals. The Games, which began in 1896, are a wonderful family event with a unique torch lit procession, music, old country games such as shin kicking (don’t worry you have to enter), old-fashioned English sports, dancing and more! At the end there is a large bonfire and fireworks with a beautiful view for everyone to see. A truly unique event to the Cotswolds, known internationally.

Scuttlebrook Wake

Following after Dover’s Games, Scuttlebrook Wake starts with a procession and parade passing shops and houses through the High Street. Afterwards the square is filled with entertainment and fun for all including a fare, Morris Dancing, Country Dancing and more. Each year there is also a fancy dress competition, which brings with it a lot of laughter and fun all on its own. Other events include children’s races, prizes, and old-fashioned original playground, and more.
